Congratulations to Ashley Borden-Hunt, our Lash Artist of the Month! We got to chat with her to learn more about her lash journey and what she loves the most about being a lash artist. We hope her journey will inspire you and, perhaps, give you a tip or two to integrate into your own lash career or business!
1. What is your story?
I’m Ashley Hunt, a proud daughter, sister, wife and friend. I’m also the founder/owner of Artisan Lash, located in Atlanta, Georgia. As a natural born artist, I’ve always had a knack for enhancing and highlighting the beauty of others. Although talented, my “unofficial” background in hair and makeup was always bittersweet. Simply put, I just didn’t love it!
It wasn’t until the beginning of 2015, that I found my true love…lashes. I started my journey working part-time from my home studio. After about a year I committed myself to lashing and started my professional lash career in a popular lash studio in Buckhead. Fast forward to present day, I’m now a licensed esthetician, multi-certified lash artist and salon owner. Aside from lashing, I love traveling, if I could live on the beach I would!
2. What advice would you give a new lash artist- or your younger self?
If I could give a new artist or my younger self any advice, it would be to PUSH THROUGH! It didn't come as naturally as I expected. It took long hours, multiple disappointments and too many "trials and errors" to even count.
Submit to the process, understand and accept that it won't be easy but if you persist, it'll definitely be worth it!
3. Do you work for someone or own your own business? What’s your favorite aspect of your job?
I own my own studio/business. Although I loved working as a team, I’ve grown to love the exclusive private experience I’m now able to offer my clients. My favorite aspect would have to be my clients.
I love the freedom and artistry of lashing, but my ladies make my (lash) world go-round.
4. What the best way you’ve found to attain and retain your clients?
Word of mouth!! Make a positive impact on one client and she'll refer everyone she knows lol. Sounds cliche but it's true!
5. What has this industry done for you?
This industry has done everything for me! From the highs to lows, it's changed my life for the better. I was able to find and pursue my passion in artistry and gain my freedom through the power of lashes. I've also gained amazing friendships and community, that I'll cherish forever.
6. Who are some of your inspirations?
I have too many to name, but I totally love and respect Jenelle Paris (@lashaffairbyjp), Trina Dial Horne (@mavenartistry), Morgan Rackley (@thelashdesignory) and Dejsa Junious (@addictitlashes).
These ladies have one way or another totally impacted my life and/or lash career.
