If you’re a newer artist, start with an adhesive that has a slower dry time (2–3 seconds) so you have more time to place each extension. Experienced artists often prefer faster-setting formulas (0.5–1 second) for speed. Lash Affair carries adhesives across the full range so you can level up as your technique improves. Humidity and temperature in your lash room also matter — check the product specs for ideal working conditions.

Lash Affair offers classic individual lash extensions, premade volume fans, and easy-fan lashes in a variety of curls (B, C, CC, D, L, M), lengths (6mm–18mm), and diameters (0.03–0.20mm). Whether you specialize in natural classic sets or dramatic volume, we have the trays to match your style.

At minimum, you need lash extensions, adhesive, isolation tweezers, application tweezers, gel pads or tape for under-eye coverage, a lash tile or adhesive ring, and a micro-brush applicator. Lash Affair’s Artist Kits bundle everything a new lash tech needs so you don’t have to piece it together yourself.

A full set of properly applied lash extensions should last 4–6 weeks with a fill recommended every 2–3 weeks. Retention depends on the adhesive used, your client’s natural lash cycle, aftercare habits, and environmental factors like humidity. Using a high-retention adhesive like Clear Connection and educating clients on proper aftercare will maximize the time between appointments.

Classic lashes use a 1:1 ratio — one extension per natural lash — for a natural, mascara-like look. Volume uses handmade or premade fans of 2–6 lightweight extensions per natural lash for a fuller, fluffier result. Mega volume goes even further with fans of 6–16 ultra-fine extensions (0.03–0.05mm diameter). Each technique requires different products and skill levels.

Most professional lash adhesives perform best between 45–65% relative humidity and 68–74°F (20–23°C). Conditions outside this range can cause adhesive to cure too fast (high humidity) or too slow (low humidity), both of which affect retention. A hygrometer in your lash room is essential. Check each adhesive’s specific recommendations — every formula has its own sweet spot.

Licensing requirements vary by state and country. In most U.S. states, you need a cosmetology or esthetician license to perform lash extension services. Clients should avoid getting their lashes wet for the first 24 hours after application, then cleanse daily with a lash-safe foaming cleanser. They should avoid oil-based products near the eyes, skip waterproof mascara, and avoid rubbing or pulling at their extensions. Using a clean spoolie to brush through extensions daily helps keep them neat and prevents tangling.

The most common causes of poor retention are incorrect adhesive storage (always store upright in a cool, dry place), working outside the adhesive’s ideal humidity and temperature range, using too much or too little adhesive, poor isolation technique, and client aftercare habits. Oil-based skincare products, excessive moisture, and mechanical rubbing all shorten extension life.
