Congratulations to Aleksandra Dedova, our January Lash Artist of the Month! We had the pleasure of speaking with Aleksandra and learning all about her business and path in the lash industry. Her outlook on perfecting her knowledge and talent in the industry is exactly what to look for in a lash artist.

Where do you work?

My studio is based in Springfield, VA. Right now I work for myself, but I'm planning to expand in the near future.

How long have you been lashing and what certifications do you have?

I’ve been doing lashes for around 6 years now. I have 20 certifications from the US, Russia, and the biggest European schools like Bordeaux, Art Lash, School of Victoria Chabak, Vis a Vis, and School of Yana Resni4ka. I am also the winner of the Beauty Factory Miami 2018 and World Union Academy of Cosmetology in Dubai 2019. Additionally, I am a licensed esthetician in the DMV area. 

Why did you decide to become a lash artist? What got you into lashing? 

I was in the beauty industry long before lash extensions became a thing. When I saw lashes coming to the industry I knew there was a bug future behind it, since they are convenient and don’t damage the natural lashes. 

What was your biggest fear going into this industry?

I didn’t have any fear. I love to take risks, it’s in my blood. 
 
What’s your favorite aspect of being a Lash Artist?  
I love to take my clients from gorgeou to fabulous! Also creativity is unlimited in the industry. You can be as creative as you want to be. 

Other than lashing, what is your favorite hobby?

I love to spend time with my family! I also love dancing, it helps me to unwind.

What advice would you give a new lash artist? 

Always learn. Never stop improving. When you think you know it all, you are wrong!

What are you looking to accomplish in the lash industry?

I want to open my own school, where I could share my knowledge and help others to achieve their dreams. 

Who are some of your inspirations?

My inspiration is Sara Jessica Parker. She made herself who she is without anyone. Her parents weren’t rich, so she didn’t have anyone’s financial support. She is a true fashion icon and her style is always on point. 

What is the best way you’ve found to gain and retain your clients?

Best way is to be the best in your job. Whenever people see your skills they will never want to switch to another master. 

What sets you apart from other lash artists? What’s next for you?

I never stop going to master classes, I always take courses to improve my work. Even if I won the biggest lash competition in the United States, I would still continue to learn. There are always new techniques and different curls. Next for me is to expand and open a bigger studio, where I can do what I love and to share my passion with others.
